Pro Bono Publico
For the Good of the Public

  1. As IMF is aiming to become an integral part of the litigation process in Australia it is important that the company should also take on the burdens as well as the advantages of litigious work by involving itself in pro bono work.

  2. There is a long and honourable worldwide tradition of those involved in litigation giving free support for worthy public, social, family or ethnic causes. IMF intends to be part of that tradition.

  3. The company has appointed John Walker to oversee our pro bono campaign.

  4. The company’s policy is that it will make executive and employee time available and provide funds in appropriate circumstances (where possible on the basis that such funds are repaid if the pro bono litigation is successful or where the payment of the pro bono funds is subject to a tax deduction).

  5. We will initially allocate no more than 5% of our annual budget to this work and plan to retrieve between one third and one half of monies expended by virtue of costs orders and tax advantages.

  6. The amount actually expended on pro bono work will be outlined in our annual report to shareholders.
